The marketing team at Blizzard knows what they’re doing when it comes to cinematic trailers. That said, let’s dig in to some of the trailers featured at Blizzcon 2018.
We’re gonna need a bigger phone
First on my list is Diablo Immortal. This work of art really draws you in with its narration and beautifully rendered graphics. Very little is actually said about the new game other than that humanity must band together. This air of mystery tends to draw you in even further. I only hope that the mobile only game will live up to the implied promise of greatness the trailer puts forth. If it does, I might need a phone with a larger screen.
A blast from the past…with upgrades
Being a 90’s kid I feel it’s my duty to at least mention Warcraft 3: Reforged. The cinematic trailer is simple yet beautiful. The gameplay trailer makes you wish you were playing the game instead of watching the trailer. I’m excited to see the new UI features. I only hope they didn’t deactivate the cheat codes. Let the battle for Azeroth rage on!
Get ready to Rastakhan Rumble!
Of all the Blizzard games the one I’m least interested in is HearthStone. However, I did really enjoy the trailers for Rastakhan’s Brawl. The song is just so catchy. It almost makes me want to give HearthStone another go.
Born of the Nexus
Orphea, daughter of the Raven Lord is a new hero available in Hero’s of the Storm. After looking at her skills and abilities she kind of looks too good to be true. Also, we share a weakness to poke. Seriously though, I love Overflowing Chaos. Dealing damage while healing herself is going to be a huge thing. Especially as she levels up.
Bob, do something!
My final mention has to be the announcement of Ashe. She’s a total badass? Depending on which trailer you watch, this new Overwatch character will either seem totally awesome, or somewhat stereotypical. Either way she’s full of sass, and gets to boss around a big robot with a bowler hat.
Final thoughts
Micro-transactions aside, Blizzard does look like they’re still trying to give their fans something to look forward to in the near future. I know I didn’t list all the cinematic and gameplay trailers featured this year. Let me know in the comments which ones you would have chosen.
